I’m Creepy

I collect parts of my family.

It’s so weird.

It’s like I’m a serial killer that hasn’t gotten around to killing them yet but has the whole “keeps souvenirs” part down.

My sister loves pandas. I now love plush pandas, adorable paintings, things like that. Plus I like how bi-polar they are. Not to mention that they spend their days eating, sleeping, attacking each other, and you know, sleeping. I think they’re adorable now as I’ve been exposed to them due to my sister, whom I call Panda. I don’t know what it is but suddenly I see a panda plushy and think it’s the cutest thing in the world. (I don’t have a money tree in my basement for my unicorn to eat from though, so I can’t buy them all)

My mom loves cookie monster. Ever since I was a munchkin, she’s loved him. Now? I love him! Cookies? Sarcasm? Blue? Fuzzy? My favorite quote by the cookie monster is, “Today me will live in the moment unless its unpleasant in which case me will eat a cookie”. Chocolate chip cookies….. *heaven* Double chocolate chip cookies too, man.

Papa loves Snoopy. I now love snoopy. Epically. He’s a writer, he loves naps, and he’s a sarcastic dog. Can you get any better???

Don’t get me wrong. I am still extremely picky, with everything. Including pandas, cookie monster quotes, and snoopy comics. Not to mention I simply added these random pieces of my family to a… you know… me. And me already came with quite a few likes already. I have like fifteen plushies and I love them all, none being a panda, for example.

Anywho, it struck me as real strange, how I collect parts of my family. Next thing you know I’ll be hiding the odd leg or finger in my freezer.

It’s like I absorb parts of them.

Creepy, right?

Have you guys ever done this?

Halloween Spotlight: The Addams Family

Last week I watched the 1991 movie for the first time.

I’ve totally fallen in love.

Once you get past the pure amazingness of the movie over all, a few things really stood out to me, which made me like it even more.

mv5bntcznja4nzczmv5bml5banbnxkftztcwmtkzmtqymq-_v1_

Morticia and Gomez are a couple, even though they have children. How often do you see that anymore?

Most people have kids and its like they turn to each other and say, ‘well, it’s been nice knowing ya!… but you know, we don’t exist anymore’. 0.o

Morticia and Gomez are parents who actually treat each other like lovers. Take time out for just the two of them, without discussing the children.

When they do spend time with their children (like at family meals) they don’t treat them like annoying morons.

Their relationship is just as alive as their relationship with their children.

When I get married, I want a marriage like theirs!

Wednesday and Pugsley are awesome people. Not immature brats who believe the world owes them its constant attention.

I love those kids! They’re off on their own in the house, doing their own thing. Not complaining, wining, expecting their parents to entertain them all freaking day and night long. Not obsessed with schoolyard drama or what they’re wearing.

They’re not bent on enslaving their parents, as if their parents aren’t human beings too.

I don’t look at them and think children. I think people, with personalities. Developing their own interests and opinions. *gasp* It’s awesome.

mv5bntu2mjg0mjgyov5bml5banbnxkftztgwmje3nju5mte-_v1_sy1000_cr0012421000_al_

That scene where Wednesday and Pugsley perform their play. The entire audience is silently disturbed and the Addams family stands and claps for their kids.

The.

Best.

I love this. They’re a weird, eclectic family that doesn’t care what anyone else thinks. They’re just who they are, unapologetically. And they support each other all the way.

The entire family respects each other’s individuality and space, and yet they’re closely knit and love each other to scary extremes.

They’re strange.

Come on, who doesn’t love that.

The entire movie is a smorgasbord of weirdness and Halloween spirit.

I love how Gomez has a hat for everything he does. And Morticia’s facial expressions, especially those eyes? Freaking perfect! Wednesday, I love Wednesday. I love how she and Pugsley are constantly trying to kill one another, yet they’re totally fine, and get along great. I don’t have any idea how the guy that plays Fester can move around like that and make it believable, but he does.

Okay, anyway, I could go on forever.

Do you like The Addams Family?

What’s a recent movie you’ve watched to get into the Halloween spirit?

Personal Neglect (and the Writer)

Do you ever get tired?

Tired of non-stop to-do lists on paper and playing over and over again in your head. Constantly on the move. And when you are home and have some time, you’re using it to do something else you’re responsible for or have become responsible for or feel you’re responsible for doing right this very moment (usually the latter). Never a moment to sit and relax. And I mean fully relax. As in, not thinking/worrying about something you could be doing, should be doing, need to be doing, etc. instead of sitting down and breathing.

I do.

I get exhausted.

I go and go and go and go until I start dragging my feet and feeling sick and start wondering, once again, why I’m not enjoying life.

I think I forget to breathe.

I forget I’m allowed to enjoy life.

Getting one's ducks in order...

Getting one’s ducks in a row…

I feel like I should have some obligations to myself too.

I mean, it’s my life. I exist, right?

And not just to make others happy, help others with their business ventures, help others with their lives.

I matter, too, right? Following that train of thought, my life matters too.

So I believe actively deciding some responsibilities to myself is healthy, needed. And I think often times we forget this.

And not to nitpick or be sexist or whatever, but I believe women especially suffer themselves under this way of life.

Men go to work, come home, and have some down time. Even if they hang around with their children or take some time to help out around the house or spend time with their partner. Regardless, they know they worked hard and they deserve some down time, some time to relax.

I’m sure there are men that do this too (keep going, no down time), especially those who have taken on the “mothering” role or whatever. (I’m not big on labels or strict societal rules of “men – grrr, women – squeak”.)

But I feel like the more nurturing the person, the more compassionate and concerned with the affairs of others they are, the more likely they are to neglect themselves.

As if I have to validate my very existence by constantly doing something for someone else or actively working on something the world deems work. (As in, not writing.)

I’m allowed that time to relax. I work at work, I work from home, I help with my family, I have other obligations with time restraints. But dammit, after that, I deserve, have the right, to relax. To enjoy. To do something for fun. Something only for fun. To have an identity based on my own self rather than only the percentage of myself which does for others.

I’m not sure if I’ve shared this or not, but there’s a phrase I like.

You are a human being, not a human doing.

The point is, sometimes I can just breathe, and be.

Misery is optional.

Hotel Hell #6 – Not a Snowball’s Chance in Hell

This Month’s Recap: we were given a week to get out of Hotel Hell, we called tons of people but were turned down even though we have no money. Down to four days to get out and a miracle struck. We secured the next two months and told everyone we were safe. People started rolling their eyes and insinuating we freaked out for attention. I got a little opposite of happy.

I made use of my flamethrower. =D

We didn’t know we’d be able to stay. We thought we’d be out on our butts and we were one dilemma away from a nervous breakdown. If you think we’re being ridiculous, answer me this question. When was the last time you thought life was leaving you without a place to live? Better yet – when was the last time it happened four times in a row and all anyone did was roll their eyes and call you drama queen? The threat of being kicked out of a bad situation and abandoned to a worse one is real for us. So pardon me for being worried.

Mini rant over.

On another note, I have every adult’s worst fear in a single picture. Observe:

We were down at the dollar store, went to pay for something but our card was mysteriously denied. Hmmmm… checked the balance and almost fell over.

Our balance was NEGATIVE eighty thousand dollars?! Ha, ha. Did someone mention heart failure? It turned out there was something wrong with the fafsa’s online controls and everything was fine the next day.  But really? I think the bad luck fairy likes us. Too much. I think she gets a raise if we have a heart attack before we die.

Last Hotel Hell post, I told you our refrigerator door fell off. Well, this month it died. Not the door – we duct taped that – but the entire refrigerator died.  And all our food went bad. So now we have to keep everything shoved to the back of the fridge where it stays relatively cool, and move the milk back and forth between the freezer and fridge so it doesn’t go bad.

Oh! Oh! And, in denial to the claims that all I ever eat is chocolate (*cough *cough) I have taken a picture of my lunch! Whatcha got now?

IMG_4898

Ha ha! See, I told you I mostly, sometimes balance out my diet. Really. Sort of. When I’m not eating chocolate, I’m eating  healthy, ok? Or at least 80% healthy.

If there’s one thing that I cannot wait to have money to be able to do, it’s try different foods. I love food. 😀

Mum dropped her phone in her chocolate milk. And I’M the clumsy one?

The shop beneath us locked their wifi, so we’d need their network key to use it. Sooooo, we bought a monthly wireless internet plan and hooked it up (because we don’t have a phone jack in our room). And it didn’t work. Apparently someone hit the tower in our town and it’s going to be down for up to three days.

See? Bad luck fairy strikes again.

ROAD TRIP

We went on a road trip sometime in May, or June, or July… Okay, one of those but I don’t remember which. Or maybe it was the beginning of August. I don’t remember. Regardless, we took a road trip.

L to R; Dylan, Holly, Tannis

We burrowed someone’s car, since our truck eats gas like skittles, and drove four hours with Lucky in the backseat and drove each other crazy. Just kidding, we didn’t kill each other. It was a surprisingly relaxed day. Okay, so it wasn’t relaxed but we weren’t at each other’s throats with a pick axe, so it was a good day.

Whatever the case, I think the fresh air did Dylan some good.  Right up until he started glowing.

Holly and Lucky had some bonding time. A couple of adorable Do Do Birds, aren’t they?

I met an awesome crow, who had quite a lot to say. I’ll definitely be thinking of a way to include him in a future post – I got some hilarious photos of him.

On the drive home, I took more pictures than I can count, but I especially like the bells lining the road. Why? I don’t know. I just do. Deal with it. 😉

IMG_4668 IMG_4676

This one spoke words to me. No really, it’s telepathic.

I THINK the bells line the path the padres used to walk from mission to mission. But I could be wrong about that, as I don’t have Google to Google anything right now, I could be 100% wrong.

Oh, and I put my hand in a bag full of maggots. Just had to share that. Yuck (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

Be not afraid, blog-o-spherians. No bad luck fairy is going to keep me from you. Not a snowball’s chance in Hell.

Do you like crows? Are you clumsy? Do you know what those bells are? Is the Bad Luck Fairy infatuated with you?
